green with envy

These are my neighbor's daffodils. He has allowed them to natualize and his backyard is filled with them.

This is my daffodil.

I have one daffodil. Every fall I plant more. Every spring this is the only one that comes up. Daffodils spread. They spread all over my neighbor's yard. One year one spread to my yard. It never came up again. My neighbor does not pick his daffodils when they bloom and he won't let me pick them either. He barely allows me to look at them. I do peak when he's not home. I'm not jealous.....

robin sighting!

What:  a robin!

Where: Dix Hills

Sorry this picture isn't better quality, but robins seem to be a little camera shy.  There was a  rowdy group of them at the bottom of my parent's driveway.  They were having a party and I think worms were the honored guests!

What:  forsythia

Where:  my living room

This isn't really cheating.   One of the spring traditions in my family is to watch buds form on the forsythia and cut some branches as soon as they can be forced to bloom indoors.

spring at school

Well, there's still snow on the ground, but that hasn't stopped the trees on campus from starting to bud.    The sky was an amazing color.  It was just a glorious day!

Where:  Queen's College

the sun is back!

What:  rose bush

Where:  my back yard

We still have about 3 inches of snow on the ground.  I found leaves on this rose bush, so I am not giving up on spring yet. The sun, reflecting off the snow is warm and bright.

What:  my favorite chair

Where:  my back yard

I don't think I'm quite ready to set outside but this chair is waiting for me

What:  nuthatch

Where:  my front yard

This little guy doesn't seem to have any problem with the weather.

Oh No!

What:  6 inches of snow
Where:  my front yard

This is not what I had in mind.  But wait a minute, don't we need to have one snowstorm every winter?  Okay, so this is it!  Now we can move on to spring!

What:  azalea

Where:  my front yard

There are still buds under those little puffs of snow.  Really!

looking for green

What: daffodils
Where: my front yard

Hey, that was easy! I found these daffodils right outside my front door. Have I convinced you that spring is here?
